Favourites || My Favourite Base Trio

With Summer fast approaching, I always like to ensure I have a long-lasting, oil controlling base ready for the hot weather (if we're lucky and get any sunshine in the UK!). I find that I switch up my base a lot. I am always trying different things out and this Summer I am pleased to say, I think I have my base hacked!

I didn't include Powder in this, but I will give a shout out to my Rimmel Stay Matte and NYX finishing powders.

The first product, is the 'One Heck of a Blot' primer by Soap & Glory. Firstly, I love the packaging of Soap & Glory products. They are always so fun and sleek, and the product descriptions don't disappoint either.

'Amazing. Addictive. Invisible. Well oil be damned, the secret to perfect, shine-free skin is SOAP & GLORY One Heck of a Blot Instant-Perfecting Power Primer. With PORE-SHRING Technology to instantly diminish the appearance of pores and SHINE-BLOC 12HR Matte Spheres for all-day-shine control, our magnificent, multi-action primer helps hide imperfections, even out your skin tone and reduce the appearance of redness. It also helps make your face make-up last longer and with Vitamin E, leaves you good to glow.'

This primer feels like the Benefit Porefessional in texture, it feels very smooth and a little goes a long way. This is definitely a mattifying primer, but isn't at all drying and makes the skin very smooth which subsequently makes my foundation look very even. In terms of its claims of pore minimising and redness reducing, I can't comment as these are not skin issues that I particularly suffer from, however I can agree that this makes my makeup last significantly longer, keeps me oil free and helps my makeup to apply more evenly.

Secondly, the matching One Heck of a Blot foundation. I picked this up after watching a number of American  Youtubers start raving about it out of the blue and decided to give it a go. My one criticism of this foundation is that it only comes in 4 shades and therefore doesn't cover a wide range of skin tones. I am hoping this will be something they amend in the future. I have included the palest shade below ('Fair Enough') to give some reference as to the palest shade.

'Flawless. Fabulous. Full coverage. Rise but don't shine with ONE HECK OF A BLOT All Day Liquid-to-Powder foundation from Soap & Glory. With SHINE-BLOC 12HR LONGWEAR TECHNOLOGY so your complexion stays gorgeously oil-free all day. Plus, SUPER-BLUR POWDERS to blur away the appearance of pores, imperfections and redness. No caking. No Shine. No way you'll go back to your old foundation.'

The above are some quite big claims, however it is pretty darn good. When you squeeze the foundation out of the pump, it is a light liquid texture but as soon as you apply it to your face you can feel it start to change to a powdery consistency, but you definitely still have enough time to blend before it completely sets down. It dries to a semi-matte finish and looks very natural. I wouldn't say that this is full coverage straight off the bat. It is more of a medium coverage foundation but is definitely buildable to be fuller. I think this is great becaus eit makes the foundation more versatile.

I also want to pick up the matching One Heck of a Blot powder as I have heard nothing but good things, but I'm not sure I can justify £12 on a powder, when my £4 powder from Rimmel does a good enough job.

Finally, to finish my makeup look, I always apply my L'Oreal Infalliable Fixing Mist. I have also tried the one from Maybelline, which was good, but this one blows that out of the water.

'Our first ever makeup-finishing spray sets and extends your make-up, for that 'just applied' look. Anti-melt, Anti-fade, Anti-crack.'

This comes in a 100ml bottle and I have had this for about 2 months now and only used half, so at £7.99 this is great value for money. One thing I have found, is that if you don't shake this properly to mix the powder and the liquid, you do get white speckles on your face, however once mixed this is not a problem.

The difference I have noticed since using this spray is phenomenal. I have issues with foundation fading badly around my nose, my chin and my fore-head due to having combination skin. However, when using this, the problem is minimised greatly, and with the right foundation, the problem is non-existent. I highly recommend this if you want to make your makeup last longer over the summer months!

  1. I haven't tried any products from Soap & Glory yet! The primer sounds great. I love the Benefit Porefessional, so if it's anything like it, I'm trying it! Great reviews! :)

    1. You definitely should! I think you'll be surprised at how good they are :) the Supercat liner is fantastic too and the Brow Archery. It's just like Porefessional, I used to love that too and then found this for a fraction of the price :)

      Thanks for commenting x

  2. I have combination skin as well so I'm interested in anything that can make my makeup stay in place. I'm using the NYX setting mist so I may just check out this one from L'Oreal when I run out x

  6. Brilliant post! If you like primers with a texture similar to the POREfessional I would definitely recommend The Body Shop's Instablur primer! It's smooths out the face beautifully and makeup lasts all day. It's my number one at the moment. I'll definitely have to give the Loreal setting spray a try too! ❤
